This Saturday 30th sees the September Roots with Brother Culture flying in from London to join the mighty Rootical Soundsystem at the Limerick Boat Club. Brother Culture was on hand to kick off the first Roots back last May and since then he has featured on a number of releases. You can hear some of them on his myspace page and hopefully you will able to pick some up this Saturday night at the club. We open at 9 and expect things to be kicking off early so get down there. Admission 8 euro. If you haven't been before check the photos from the last two Roots in August and July.
Back west Kerrynini also have a reggae special this Friday in Tralee with avatar and Rob Condon. Avatar sound good and went down well at the Bloom festival. Hopefully we will see more of them in coming months. Full details up here

Mashing it up

Nice event in National Gallery tomorrow night as part of Dublin Culture Night. Featuring Droid and Slug (check their excellent mixes and sleevenotes at wearie) it should prove an interesting use of Gallery space. Should see more of this in Limerick. Most experiments in using traditional art spaces as places for music and dancing have been hugely successful, thinking here of Mamuska in Daghdha, Paul Tarpeys late Saturday nights in Belltable and even further back to a packed Printmakers for ouch electro. Just been a bit quiet of late.

"Outlying Islands" latest production from Island runs at the Belltable until September 22nd. The transformation of the interior of the theatre is stunning and for anyone who ever walked into the Belltable and got that urge to tear up the seats, then a visit to this is a must, worth the ticket price in itself. The music and lighting also contribute to a theatre experience not quite like any other that I have encountered in Limerick before. The story itself has many strands and themes which provide a lot of food for thought. I didn't find myself as emotionally engaged as i would have expected but everyone I met at it last Saturday night, seemed to really enjoy it.

Downtown, the Limerick Printmakers open submission show features work from a number of different artists. It runs until the 28th of September. Paul Tarpey from this site has three pieces on display.

Another Saturday night in the city

From a few weeks ago, Fergus Murphy ex velure and now player with rubadub in copenhagen was bringing the party time to Mickey Martins. We then followed the good vibes to Trinity Rooms where OB and Splyce from all city were on the decks.
