Mayor John Gilligan has had a very tough year as the city spirals downwards economically. However unlike the vast majority of our politicians he has stuck steadfastly to his principles and spoken frankly when he has seen something as wrong. He has applied this on the bigger issues like berating certain companies shoddy behaviour towards their workforce and the smaller ones like refusing to get 09-L1 reg plates because it would cost the city 1,000 euro.
Limerick Leader journalist Mike Dwane had an interview with him a few weeks ago.
The ringtone is Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. I had to Google this under "creepy classical music".
Connoisseurs will know this music as one of the high points of baroque but most people associate it with vampires getting out of coffins.
I'm not sure how you might interpret this but if you fail to get armed with Dan Sullivans doorstep challenge that I mentioned here, then maybe this is a way of engaging with the droves of candidates knocking on your door soon. "What ringtone do you have on your phone?"
While unfortunately it didn't refer directly to ringtones, Gerry Adams was interviewed by KCLR last week in Kilkenny. Ken McGuire send in a question about favourite bands and the Sinn Fein president revealed himself to be a fan of the American folk tradition with Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Bruce Springsteen getting a nod. On the Irish front, he lists the Chieftains and Sean O Riada, he also says that U2 have a new album out but doesn't say whether he is looking forward to it. Or maybe he was hinting that he had an advance copy. However considering where he was been interviewed you couldn't help but wish he had mentioned Captain Moonlight and maybe even give us a verse or two from his biggest hit. Maybe in a perfect world.
